In 2013 the director introduced us to a movie which caused people to turn white with fear and it was one of the scariest American horror movies ever. There was no such movie like The Conjuring in almost three decades. This horror movie is praised all over the world. The Conjuring was based on a true story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens are asked for help after a dark presence started to terrorize one family in a secluded farmhouse. Soon the paranormal investigators realize that the powerful demon they are fighting with is the most gruesome case they ever had.

2. Sinister, 2012

In 2012 director Scott Derrickson came back with a new horror movie and it was surely not for weaklings. Ellison Oswalt (actor Ethan Hawke) is a true-crime writer who specializes in writing about real life crimes. After finding out about horrific deaths of a family of four that took place in a secluded house, Ellison decides that it would be a great writing material for his next book. He and his family moves into a house where a horrific crime took place earlier in order to empathize with experiences of a dead family. However his family doesn’t know anything. Ellison begins researching the crime so that he could write a new book about it to help his failing career. He uses some film footage that he finds in the house to help with his research and finds a terrifying figure in each of them. As a result, their lives turn into hell.

3. Oculus, 2014

Creators of Paranormal Activity, Insidious and The Conjuring once again joined their forces to present us with a new cinematographic challenge which is as good as previously mentioned hits of horror genre. In this movie not only we can find scenes that will make you hold your breath or make you shiver with fear but also it is a well written story with a deeper meaning which will make you sit still until you see the final subtitles. It is an unpredictable movie during which you will be able to experience fear, astonishment and even pleasure caused by this masterly storyline. Word “oculus” in Latin means “eye” which considering the deeper meaning of this movie also symbolizes a reflection of the soul. And that is the reason why the antique mirror in this movie has such a strong influence on the lives of main characters. After losing their parents at a young age, Tim and Kaylie were separated. However after many years of not seeing each other they reunited when Tim was discharged from a mental hospital. Kaylie wants to prove to her brother that the tragedy that took place when they were kids was committed by a supernatural phenomenon living in the antique mirror.

4. Devil‘s Due, 2014

Romantic wedding, sweet honeymoon and joyfull news about a upcomming baby. Sounds like a beautiful romantic story.. Not this time. The creators of he „Devil‘s Due admitd that it was inspired by the director Roman Polansky‘s terrific classical horror movie „Rosemary‘s Baby“. „Although there are quite a bit of similar details this movie will be different. Contrary to the „Rosemary‘s Baby“ we wanted to let our viewers know that the creature growing inside this woman‘s body is very dark and dangerous,“ – said the creators. „It was very entertaining to watch „Rosemary‘s baby and adopt some details to our own version. The lovers of horror genre won‘t be dissapointed.“

5. The Woman In Black, 2012

Young lawyer from London Arthur Kipps still grieves the death of his beloved wife Stella who passed away delivering their son Joseph four years ago. Seeing that the death of his wife has a negative effect on his job, Arthur’s employer gives him a last chance to keep his job, and he is assigned to travel to the remote village of Cryphin Gifford to examine the documentation of the Eel Marsh House that belonged to the recently deceased Mrs. Drablow. After Arthur arrives to the village he meets solicitor Jerome who advises him to immediately return home. However, Arthur goes to the isolated manor and soon he finds out that Eel Marsh House is haunted by the vengeful ghost of a woman dressed in black.

6. I Spit On Your Grave 2, 2013

Young girl named Katie works as a photo model. Katie decides to go to some studio for a photo shoot after being advised to have some of her photos taken professionally for her portfolio. However the guys working there ask Katie to wear less clothes and she gives up of the session. After that Katie’s life turns into a nightmare. One night her apartment is intruded by the guy who worked in a photo studio. Not only he rapes her but also kills Katie’s neighbor. Later on she gets drugged and transferred from New York to Bulgaria. Thanks to twist of fate Katie manages to escape from horrible torture she had to endure in a dark basement that she was held in. Now, she plans to how to exact her brutal revenge on those men.

7. Insidious 2, 2013

James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the creators of nowadays horror masterpiece “The Saw” went to another rollercoaster of fear. The beginning of this movie is kind of slow and boring however 20 minutes in to the movie and the situation changes drastically up to the point where all of your body starts to shiver. This movie is a terrifying sequel to the acclaimed horror film, which follows the haunted Lambert family as their fight with vengeful demons is not over yet. Although their son Dalton wakes up from a coma and comes back to a normal everyday life, the Lamberts can feel that Dalton is not the same child they knew.
